Roorkee the famous place of Uttarakhand known for educational institutions. The biggest attraction of Roorkee is due to IIT. Town is famous of Ganaga canals which divides it into civilians and military area. Roorkee was the Capital of Moghul mahal during the time of Akbar and reffered in Ain-E-Akbari. During 18th century it came under the rule of Laundahra state until the death of king Raja Ramdaval Dev in 1813 and later became a part of East India Company. Roorkee Institute of Technology (RIT) founded in 2005, is a self financed engineering and management institute managed and run by the Himalayan Charitable Trust, Roorkee. Roorkee town has the genesis of engineering education right from the British period and has the honour of having the first engineering college of Asia, the Thomson College of Engineering, which ultimately became University of Roorkee and now IIT-R. In the present, Roorkee city hosts the marvels of Indian Engineering Excellence. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-R), Central Building Research Institute(CBRI), Irrigation Research Institute (IRI), Irrigation Design Circle, Bengal Engineers Group & Centre - a proud unit of the army for military engineering are the few example despite hundreds of production and fabrication units supporting development of Uttarakhand and the country. These engineering marvels vibrating in the environment of Roorkee motivated us for furthering the cause of engineering education in the city. We are grateful to the Almighty for inducing such holistic thoughts in our minds and manifested the RIT, now running in full swing. Roorkee Institute of technology has demonstrated perennial evidence of merit & quality performance during last seven years and achieved a respectable position among all the private and Govt. About Cognizance Cognizance, the annual technical festival of IIT Roorkee, is an agglomeration of over 180 events which encompass every wavelength of an entire technical spectrum. Commenced in 2003, cognizance has emerged as the one of the largest festival of its kind in the Indian subcontinent and many of its core events witness a participation numbering in thousands. Today it is known across the country for helping students showcase their talents at the institute level as well as in discipline specific events. In 2012, Cognizance hosted over 9000 students of more than 1000 technical and management institutes from all over the country. In addition, this year we anticipate international participation of more than 170 students of various technical fields from across the globe. These congregations of students from various national and foreign institutes are also given company by internationally and nationally renowned experts of various spheres of academics and the corporate industry. It is an enthralling kaleidoscope of intellectually invigorating events like Robosapiens, Model United Nations, Power Drift,Armageddon, Blogomania, Chaos, Illushun, Quizzotica, workshops, guest lectures and many more; which are designed to fuel innovation and stimulation and test rigorously the participating students. These ingredients perfectly blend into this celebration of knowledge, experimentation and learning. It witnesses a congregation of widest spectra of students from various national and foreign institutes, along with experts of international repute from the academia and industry. Apart from the events at the institute level, the students are also given a chance to showcase their talent in discipline specific events comprising of technology as well as management related fields.
