The ' War Technical School' at the time of Second World War is the present pioneer technical institute in the North Eastern India named as 'His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering and Technology '. At the very outset of the institute at 1928 , the curriculum of mechanic certificate was introduced and almost all the outcomes were engaged in the different works of American Soldiers. This institute was established in 1927 with the financial aids of rupees one lakh from a great Assamese timber merchant Late Bholanath Boruah, who had given the money to the British Government in 1922 for establishing a technical school in the name of 'Prince of Wales' at Jorhat. The institute came up fully to impart technical education from 16th January 1928. After introductory motor mechanic course, a four year certificate course in Civil Engineering equivalent to diploma course has been introduced in 1948. From 1957 three year diploma course has been introduced in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Department in addition to the Civil Engineering Department. In 1976 & 1978 the curriculum of Automobile Engineering and Agriculture Engineering respectively had been included to the three diploma course. The institute has acquired another milestone with the introduction of Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering and Instrumentation Technology curriculum in 1986.

There are 56 staff and around 1600 students. The language of instruction is Assamese. Students of the Govt. Boys appear for High School Leaving Certificate (class 10 exam) under the Board of Secondary Education, Assam and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (equivalent to class 12) under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. In 1867, George Williamson, a senior administrative officer donated Rs. one lakh, for the propagation of technical education at Jorhat and Golaghat. With that donation, Williamson Artizan School was established at Jorhat in 1876 with eight students. A high school as per government policy was established at Kohima, which is a district headquarters. But the school had closed for the want of students. There was demand for a high school at Jorhat and hence the Kohima High School was shifted to Jorhat in 1883 and was amalgamated with Williamson School. The school is now best known as Jorhat Govt. Boys' Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.

Don Bosco High School, Baghchung, Jorhat is a Catholic Educational Institution. It first began in the year 1986 and is primarily run by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Dimapur Province. It is currently under the SEBA Board and has got very good results during the High School Leaving Certificate examination. It has classes from Nursery to Class X. It has now taken initiative to add the Higher Secondary courses also from 2009 for which a new building is constructed. Though, it doesn't have its own buses, there are buses that it has incorporated to accommodate the students. Every year, all the students are divided into 4 groups and they all participate in numerous activities throughout the academic year which makes the students competitive in every sphere. It also has its own Scouts and Guides movement and there are different camps organized for them. The first Headmaster was Late Fr. Thomas Arackal on whose memory there is a tomb built in the Playground. It is also one of the most beautiful schools in Assam. There is a statue of Don Bosco and also a statue of Our Lady at the front of the school which makes it a good spot for capturing photos. There is a Nirmal Hriday besides the school which is taken care by the Brothers and Fathers of Rua Home, a mighty place for all the Bosconians.
