The College of Engineering, Thalassery is one of the six engineering colleges under CAPE, established by the government of Kerala in the year 2000 and is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).The college offers Bachelor of Technology courses in Information Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Thalassery (Malayalam: തലശ്ശേരി), also known as Tellicherry, is a city on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, India. This is the second largest city of North Malabar in terms of population. The name Tellicherry is the anglicized form of Thalassery. Thalassery municipality has a population just less than 100,000.[1] Established in 1866, it is the second oldest municipality in the state. Possessing an area of 23.98 km2, Thalassery is a town strategically located on the western coast of Kannur district on the Malabar Coast of Kerala. It is 22 km from the district headquarters at Kannur. The town is situated between 11°44’N latitude and 75°26’E longitude, at an altitude ranging between 2.5m above the mean sea-level in the low-lying areas, to 30m above the mean sea-level in the higher regions.

Thalassery is in Kannur district. The palm-fringed terrain of Thalassery has a scenic coastline and features four rivers, canals and hills with orange-hued rock. One of the four rivers is the Mahé River (Mayyazhi river). During the British Raj, the Mahé River was nicknamed the English Channel, because it separated British-ruled Thalassery from French-ruled Mahé. Muzhappilangad, a 5 km long beach, is located within 6 km of the city centre. Thalassery is known as the political and cultural capital of Malabar. Its the centre of progressive political and literary movements. In the colonial era itself Thalassery was the centre of learning in north Kerala. The first Malayalam newspapers, novels and short stories in Malayalam were born here. Earlier, the well known romantic poem in Malayalam, "Veenapoovu" (Fallen Flower) of Kumaran Asan was published from Thalassery. It's also the birthplace of the Communist movement in Kerala. Thalassery has a composite cosmopolitan culture.Rajya Samacharam, the first Malayalam newspaper, was published from Thalassery. Thalassery is at times referred to as the city of Cricket (where Indians first played cricket), Cakes and Circuses.

Brennen College is one of the oldest educational institutions in Kerala affiliated to Kannur University. It is located in Dharmadam, Thalassery of Kerala state, India. The Brennen College evolved from a school established by the English philanthropist Edward Brennen, who had made Thalassery his home. In December 2004, the government of Kerala bestowed the status of "university" on Brennen College. There are 16 departments in the college, most of which offer post-graduate level courses. There are around 2,000 students and 100 teaching staff.HistoryGovernment Brennen College developed out of the free school established in 1862 by Edward Brennen, a master attendant of Tellicherry Port. It was elevated to the status of a II Grade College with F.A. Classes in 1890. The institution became a I Grade College in 1947, and it was shifted to the new building at Darmadam in 1958. Government Brennen College celebrated its century in 1990 wheb. The then Vice President of India, His Excellency Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma inaugurated the centenary celebrations. Brennen College is recognized as a center of Excellence by the Government of Kerala. The University Grants Commission includes the college in 12B and 2F Categories. In 2004 September, this institution with its entire legacy and quality drive was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council at B++ Grade.The Brennen College campus is situated in Dharmadam Panchayath on a hillock just 5 km north of Thalassery town and 1 km away from Kannur-Thalassery National Highway. The campus has 16.5 acres (67,000 m2) of land housing the Academic Departments, Administrative Office, Central Library, Student’s Hostels, Staff Quarters, and Play Ground.
