The College of Engineering, Thalassery was established in the year 2000. Thalassery, the cradle of colonial legacy that is known for its scenic beauty and prominence in the educational field from ancient times. The foundation stone was laid by Sri E.K Nayanar, the then Honorable Cheif Minister of Kerala. The college in the new building complex was officially inaugurated by Sri. M.V Raghavan, the then Honorable Minister of Co-operation and Ports in the year 2004. It is located at Kundoormala, Eranholi (West Ponniam) 6.5 km east of Thalassery town in Kannur (Cannanore) district. The college is situated on a hilltop with the Arabian Sea on one side and the Western Ghats on the other. The site is easily accessible by road. One can alight at the Thalassery bus stand and catch one of the frequent buses to Kuthuparamba and alight at West Ponniam. Those traveling by train should alight at Thalassery Railway Station and get the bus to Kuthuparamba from the Thalassery Bus Stand. The sprawling campus spread over 25 acres of land provides an ideal atmosphere for the pursuit of knowledge. The College is affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The College Offers B-Tech courses in the following five Engineering streams with a sanctioned strength of 66 students in each branch per year. Admission to this college is purely based on the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted by the Govt. of Kerala. The students of this college are getting top ranks right from the first batch itself among the colleges under CUSAT. This college is the choice of top rank holders in the CEE. This college has made a distinction in discipline, quality teaching and in excellence of students. The Courses offered are Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering. The duration of each course is four academic years as prescribed in the curriculum. The first two semesters will be combined together as first year, and the remaining three years consists of six semesters. Examinations will be conducted at the end of the year/semester. The annual intake for each course is : Computer Science & Engineering - 60 Electronics & Communication Engineering - 120 Electrical & Electronics Engineering - 60 Information Technology - 60 Mechanical Engineering - 60 The eminent team of faculty carves out best in every student as they leave shells to face the outer world. The institute also aims at personal development of the students to the best extend by training them so as to be competent as par with international standards. Through quality education the institution aims to make them to excel in all-round activities for themselves and for the society. An excellent career guidance and placement unit is functioning in the college with the objective of providing career guidance and placement opportunities to the students. The Principal and all other faculty members have extended their whole hearted support to the functioning of the unit which acts as a morale booster to career conscious students and concentrates on multi dimensional personality development of the students.

Govt. Brennen College, which is one of the premier institutions of higher education in Kerala, developed out of the free school established in 1862 by Edward Brennen, a master Attendant of Tellicherry Port. It was elevated to the status of a II Grade College with F.A. Classes in 1890. The institution became a I Grade College in 1947, and it was shifted to the new building at Darmadam in 1958. Govt. Brennen College celebrated century in 1990. The then Vice President of India, His Excellency Dr. Shangar Dayal Sharma inaugurated the centenary celebrations. Govt. Brennen college is recognized as a center of Excellence by the Government of Kerala. The University Grants Commission had include the college in 12B and 2F Category. In 2004 September, this institution with its entire legacy and quality drive was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with B++ grade and in 2010 September it was reaccredited with A grade.

The Department of Management Studies of Kannur University was established in the year 2000 with a motive of moulding up prospective managers with professional advancement. With the sturdy edifice and core ethical values put to the force, the Department has persistently been successful in pursuing its aim of teaching, training, research and consultancy. The Department of Management Studies provides a two year MBA program spread over four semesters with electives in six streams: Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, Production and Operations Management, Small Business Management and Systems. The dual specialization scheme assists a student to opt for any two specializations of his/her choice. A distinctive feature of the course is the choice based credit and semester system which thereby provides ample scope to the faculty and students to incorporate the emerging trends and practices in the industry as part of the curriculum. The pedagogy also includes organizational training ( at the end of 2nd sem),lectures, seminars, case studies, summer projects(at the beginning of 4th sem).

Govt. Brennen College is one of the oldest educational institutions in Kerala affiliated to Kannur University. It is located in Dharmadam, Thalassery of Kerala state, India. The Brennen College evolved from a school established by the English philanthropist Edward Brennen, who had made Thalassery his home. This college, which is 120 years old, is one of the premier educational institutions in the state of Kerala. The Department of English in Govt.Brennen College is as old as the college itself and offers courses in Undergraduate,post graduate and Research level The department has been adorned by very eminent professors like Prof. Madhukar Rao whose Shakespearean lectures have been an enchanting experience for his students who even now respectfully remembers those days .Another name worth remembered by students in those days are of Prof. Devagi, Prof.KC Balachandran ,Prof. T Zubair, Prof.Kunjulaxmi ,Prof.NP Vijayaraghavan ,who spoke Oxford English ,all served the department in the 60s .During the 70s the department had been served by famous professors like Prof.G.Kumarapillai,Prof.Neelakandan ,who was also a very eminent ornithologist known through out India by his pen name Indhuchuden,etc.In the 80s many reputed professors like Prof.Baskaran Nair, Prof. Devdas,Prof. Sahadevan and afterwards in the recent years Prof .Surendren,Prof.Shyamala, Prof. Sarita,Prof.Leena,Prof.Jyotsana ,and younger members like Prof.Efthikar Ahamed,Prof.Jiji Suneesh,Prof.Rajith Chandran,Prof Anu Sundev ,Prof.Smitha , Ms .Namitha , Ms Shalin,Mr.Raihan,Mrs.Shabitha etc are serving the department reminiscing the elegant past. The department has a very good library .The students even now excel in the university exams just as it in the past

The dulcet Tellichery's geography is a frilled one which is adorned with four rivers, cannals, hills with orange hued rock and long scenic coastline. The innate which coniced to the town was Thalakachery, later on changed to Thalassery. And the anglicized name of Thalassery is Tellicherry. The British established their presence in Kerala in 1682, when they obtained permission from Vadakklamkurr prince of Kolottunadu settle at Thalassery. During their period, these were many organized revolts held by the natives of the region against the empire. But this revolt was crushed by the British due to its localized, non-nationalistic culture. Due to its costal location the town was the major commercial centre during the British rule in India. And the British anglicized the Malayalam name Thalassery to Tellicherry. The British built a sea port in Tellicherry for exporting variety of spices. In 1708, they built a Fort by the sea for protecting the spice trade. Overbury’s Folly one of the popular tourist spot built by a local British judge E.N.Overbury. Thalassery fames for its culture, at that times town is referred as city of cricket, cakes and circus. C.V.Devan Nair Third President of Singapore, Oyyarathu Chandu Menon author of first Malayalam novel’Indulekha’, Moorkoth Kunhappa editor of daily Malayala Manorama, V.R.Krishna Iyer, Sanjayan a Malayalam satirist, Ooracheri Gurukkanmar who taught Malayalam to Herman Gundert a German missionary who wrote the first Malayalam-English dictionary lived in Tellicherry.
