Kullu Dussehra is the Dussehra festival observed in the month of October in Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is celebrated in the Dhalpur maidan(Dhalpur ground) in the Kullu valley. It begins on ‘Vijaya Dashmi ’ and continues for seven days. The festival celebrates the triumph of the God Ram over evil. The Rath Yatra of the idol of Lord Ragunath is led by the Kullu Rajaand village deities, and is known as the running of the Gods. The procession starts a week of religious ceremonies, cultural activities, socializing and shopping at the huge bazaar, or market, that comprises most of the mela ground. Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moon, i.e. on 'Vijay Dashmi' day itself and continues in seven days.The birth of Dussehra in Kullu lay in royal fads and it nourished on religious, social and economic factors and ultimately came to bewell established, because of the inborn love of the hill-men for fun, frolic, displayed in community singing and dancing. Numerous stalls offer a verity of local wares. Government Degree College Kullu, situated on the right bank of river Beas, has one of the most picturesque scenic spot for experiencing the teaching-learning activity. The college has successfully completed 44 years of its existence. It was established on 8th July 1967 with an aim to disseminate quality education to the youth of Kullu Valley and to shape the youth by inculcating in them the ethos of tradition and change. The college caters to the needs of students of Kullu, Lahaul &Spiti and Mandi districts. All the year round the gentle caress of the rustling cool breeze keeps both the teachers and the taught in an elated and refreshing mood. There is awell-equipped computer lab, well stocked library and hostels for boys and girls. During the next session the college is expecting the peer team of NAAC for the purposes of reaccreditation.
