Vijayawada city is also popularly known by its historic name Bezawada, which is used by the Indian Railways in assigning its railway station code "BZA". It is well connected to major Indian cities by air and rail, and has the second biggest railway junction in India. Vijayawada is surrounded by the Krishna river on the east and west and the Budameru River on the north.
