Sree Narayana College, Kollam, is a premier centre of higher education in Kerala. The college is named after the great social reformer, philosopher and saint Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928). Based on the ancient directives of Universal brotherhood and Love, Sree Narayana Guru preached the noble message of "One Caste, One Religion, and One God for man." The College was started by S.N.D.P Yogam in 1948. It was the first college in Kerala to start a post graduate course. Since its inception in 1948, Sree Narayana College, Kollam has not only spearheaded the uplift of the socially and educationally backward sections of our society but has also created a glorious history of outstanding academic activities, thus making itself the leader of the institutions of higher education in the state. Today the college offers 17 undergraduate and 13 postgraduate courses. Eight of the postgraduate departments are approved research centres as well.

Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering or TKMCE, founded in 1958, is the first government aided engineering institution in the private sector in the state of Kerala, India. The college is located at Karikode, six kilometers from the city of Kollam in southern Kerala. The foundation stone was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the erstwhile President of India on 3 February 1956.The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala.
