Fateh Chand College For Women, Hisar
Fateh Chand College was founded in 1935 in Lahore by an eminent philanthropist Rai Fateh Chand. He was a visionary who regarded education as the most potent instrument of women’s empowerment. Through education he sought to promote feminism which would commit women to Indian ethos and culture and yet help them develop a cosmopolitan and progressive outlook as well. The college is a testimony to his vision and indomitable spirit.
After partition, the college was relocated to Hisar in 1954 as the first residential college in the region. Thanks to the efforts of Sh Thakur Das Bhargva, Seth Jaswant Rai, Pt. Nanak Chand, Seth Mahesh Chand, Bakshi Ram Kishan, Dr. Rajendra Nath, Babu Mahabir Prasad Jain, Babu Dharm Pal Saraf and others like them, the college has since evolved in to a prestigious women’s institution. The founder Principal Bhai Bal Mukund, created the benchmarks for others to follow. The subsequent Principals and members of Governing Body contributed in no small measure to the growth and expansion of the college.
The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University. Situated in the heart of the city, the college has a vast campus with state of the art infrastructure including teaching blocks, hostels, library, multi- purpose hall, common room, canteen, tuck shop, gymnasium, computer centre and well equipped laboratories. The college offers courses in all three streams- arts, science and commerce.
