St Joseph's College is a government-aided, Christian minority, co-educational college in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. The college campus is located about 3 km north from downtown Darjeeling. The college was established in 1888 along with the School Department and was affiliated to Calcutta University in 1927. In 1962, with the establishment of the University of North Bengal, the college was affiliated to this university. Besides offering undergraduate courses in liberal arts, commerce and science, it also offers undergraduate studies in business administration and computer application. A masters degree in English has been offered from 2006.St. Joseph's College expands the potential of students through various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Darjeeling is a Himalayan city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is internationally renowned as a tourist destination, along with its tea industry and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is "hill town headquarters" of Darjeeling district with a partially autonomous status within the state of West Bengal. The town is located in the Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya at an average elevation of 6,710 ft (2,050 m).The development of the town dates back to the mid-19th century, when the British set up a sanatorium and a military depot. Subsequently, extensive tea plantation was done in the region, and tea growers developed distinctive hybrids of black tea and created new fermenting techniques. The resultant distinctive Darjeeling tea is internationally recognised and ranks among the most popular of the black teas.[2] The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway connects the town with the plains and has one of the few steam locomotives still in service in India. Darjeeling also has several British-style public schools, which attract students from throughout India and neighbouring countries. The town, with its neighbouring town of Kalimpong, was a center for the demand of the Gorkhaland movement in the 1980s. The present movement for a separate state of Gorkhaland is also centered in Darjeeling town. In recent years, the town's fragile ecology has been threatened by a rising demand for environmental resources, stemming from growing tourist traffic and poorly planned urbanisation.

Elim Melody Academy, located in The Queen of Hills, Darjeeling, was established in 1976 by Mr Jiwan Pradhan as a medium through which he could share what he knew in music with the people of Darjeeling and nearby. Initially starting with one student, the academy opened it's door to Kurseong and other places. Now it has flourished into an institute which provides complete musical education on the Violin, Guitar and Piano. The students sit for yearly examinations from Initial grades till Grade 8 and also higher level diplomas like ATCL and LTCL, conducted by 3 international boards:- • Trinity College of Music. • Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). • Rock School International. The institute is also an examination center for the afore mentioned boards. With over 36 years of experience, Elim Melody Academy has about 250 regular students. Music Classes are held mainly on Saturday and Sunday. Consider the following Question ‘Do you like Music?’ If your answer is a positive ‘Yes’ then chances are that you have a good ear for music, which in turn could mean that with a little effort you may be able to handle a musical instrument.
