Bathinda
OLD NAME OF BATHINDA WAS TABAR-E-HIND.
DURING MUGHAL & SALTANAT PERIOD IT WAS SITUATED ALMOST IN THE CENTRE OF LAHOR - DELHI ROAD.
This was a Major point that saltanat made it a main point of there fortress.' Malik Altunia' was made the governor of this region and he use to reside in this fort. When Razia was made sultan some of turkish Nobel men stood against the sultanship of Razia. Malik Altunia, the governor of Bhatinda joined this rebellion by other provincial governors who refused to accept Razia's authority.
A battle between Razia and Altunia ensued, with the result that Yaqut was killed and Razia taken prisoner in our Bathinda fort. To escape death, Razia agreed to marry Altunia. In some accounts, as demonstrated in Anant Pai's famous comic 'Sultan Razia,' Altunia and Razia are made out to be lovers. Meanwhile, Razia's brother, Muizuddin Bahram Shah, had usurped the throne. After Altunia and Razia undertook to take back the sultanate from Bahram through battle, both Razia and her husband defeated on 24th of Rabi' al-awwal A.H. 638 (Oct. 1240), and fled Delhi and reached Kaithal the next day, where their remaining forces abandoned them, and they both fell into the hands of the enemy and were killed on 25th of Rabi' al-awwal A.H. 638[5], this date corresponds to October 14, 1240 [6]. Bahram, for his part, would later be dethroned for incompetence.
Thus Razia's stay at Bathinda was a short period's stay. and it is said that yakut's dead body was cremated in Bathinda. Surakh Peer's dargah ( A place between railway line near over bridge) is considered as his burial.
