Maharashtra Education Society, established in 1860 is the oldest private educational institution in Pune. It was founded by pioneering revolutionary Late Vasudeo Balawant Phadke, Shri. Waman Prabhakar Bhave and Shri. Laxman Narhar Indapurkar to impart education to inculcate nationalist spirit amongst the students.
At present Maharashtra Education Society runs fifty constituent units including pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, colleges, management institutes, military school for girls, vocational training institute etc. Recently the Society has started three schools in New Bombay area which have received overwhelming response. The units are located at Pune, Saswad, Baramati, Shirwal, Navi Mumbai and Ahamdnagar. The most ambitious and unique project the society is Girls' Military School at Kasar Amboli, Near Pune
Formally registered on 19-11-1887, Sir Jamshethji Jijibhoy Baronet was the first chairman. First college of the society was established in 1896 in Pune, but could not continue after 1898 due to withdrawal of recognition by the then Govt.
Beginning of schools at Saswad (1906). Baramati (1911) M.E.S. Arts & Science college (1945), M.E.S. Commerce College (1967) are some of the landmarks in Society's history.
Now it is a group of 50 institutes giving quality education from pre-primary to post graduation. We are also trying to make women self-reliant by giving them vocational training. Recently the Society has started three schools in New Bombay area which have received overwhelming response.
