अल्मोड़ा निर्देशांक: 29.62, 79.67 अल्मोड़ा भारतीय राज्य उत्तराखण्ड का महत्वपूर्ण नगर है। यह अल्मोड़ा जिला का मुख्यालय है। हल्द्वानी, काठगोदाम और नैनीताल से नियमित बसें अल्मोड़ा जाने के लिए चलती हैं। ये सभी बसे भुवाली होकर जाती हैं। भुवाली से अल्मोड़ा जाने के लिए रामगढ़, मुक्तेश्वर वाला मार्ग भी है। परन्तु अधिकांश लोग गरमपानी के मार्ग से जाना ही अदिक उत्तम समझते हैं। क्योंकि यह मार्ग काफी सुन्दर तथा नजदीकी मार्ग है। अल्मोड़ा हल्द्वानी से ९५ किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है पौराणिक संदर्भ स्कन्दपुराण के मानसखंड में कहा गया है#ै कि कौशिका (कोशी) और शाल्मली (सुयाल) नदी के बीच में एक पावन पर्वत स्थित है। यह पर्वत और कोई पर्वत न होकर अल्मोड़ा नगर का पर्वत है। यह कहा जाता है कि इस पर्वत पर विष्णु का निवास था। कुछ विद्वानों का यह भी मानना है कि विष्णु का कूर्मावतार इसी पर्वत पर हुआ था। एक कथा के अनुसार यह कहा जाता है कि अल्मोड़ा की कौशिका देवी ने शुंभ और निशुंभ नामक दानवों को इसी क्षेत्र में मारा था। कहानियाँ अनेक हैं, परन्तु एक बात पूर्णत: सत्य है कि प्राचनी युग से ही इस स्थान का धार्मिक, भौगोलिक और ऐतिहासिक महत्व रहा है। इतिहास आज के इतिहासकारों की मान्यता है कि सन् १५६३ ई. में चंदवंश के राजा बालो कल्याणचंद ने आलमनगर के नाम से इस नगर को बसाया था। चंदवंश की पहले राजधानी चम्पावत थी। कल्याणचंद ने इस स्थान के महत्व को भली-भाँति समझा। तभी उन्होंने चम्पावत से बदलकर इस आलमनगर (अल्मोड़ा) को अपनी राजधानी बनाया। सन् १५६३ से लेकर १७९० ई. तक अल्मोड़ा का धार्मिक भौगोलिक और ऐतिहासिक महत्व कई दिशाओं में अग्रणीय रहा। इसी बीच कई महत्वपूर्ण ऐतिहासिक एवं राजनैतिक घटनाएँ भी घटीं। साहित्यिक एवं सांस्कृतिक दृष्टियों से भी अल्मोड़ा सम्स्त कुमाऊँ अंचल का प्रतिनिधित्व करता रहा। सन् १७९० ई. से गोरखाओं का आक्रमण कुमाऊँ अंचल में होने लगा था। गोरखाओं ने कुमाऊँ तथा गढ़वाल पर आक्रमण ही नहीं किया बल्कि अपना राज्य भी स्थापित किया। सन् १८१६ ई. में अंग्रेजो की मदद से गोरखा पराजित हुए और इस क्षेत्र में अंग्रेजों का राज्य स्थापित हो गया। स्वतंत्रता की लड़ाई में भी अल्मोड़ा के विशेष योगदान रहा है। शिक्षा, कला एवं संस्कृति के उत्थान में अल्मोड़ा का विशेष हाथ रहा है। कुमाऊँनी संस्कृति की असली छाप अल्मोड़ा में ही मिलती है - अत: कुमाऊँ के सभी नगरों में अल्मोड़ा ही सभी दृष्टियों से बड़ा है। अल्मोड़ा जिला को ११ ब्लाक मैं बांटा गया है जो निम्नवत हैं. १.भैंसियाछाना २.भिकियासैन ३.चौखुटिया ४.धौलादेवी ५.द्वाराहाट ६.हवालबाग ७.लमगडा ८.सल्ट ९.स्याल्दे १०.ताकुला ११ताडीखेत

अल्मोड़ा भारत के उत्तराखण्ड राज्य के कुमाऊँ का एक जिला है। इस जिले का मुख्यालय अल्मोड़ा में है। अल्मोड़ा अपनी सांस्कृतिक विरासत, हस्तकला, खानपान, और वन्य जीवन के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। प्राचीन अल्मोड़ा कस्बा, अपनी स्थापना से पहले कत्यूरी राजा बैचल्देओ के अधीन था। उस राजा ने अपनी धरती का एक बड़ा भाग एक गुजराती ब्राह्मण चांद तिवारी को दान में दे दिया। बाद में जब बारामण्डल चांद साम्राज्य का गठन हुआ, तब कल्याण चंद द्वारा 1568 में अल्मोड़ा कस्बे की स्थापना इस केन्द्रीय स्थान पर की गई। कल्याण चंद द्वारा चंद राजाओं के समय मे इसे राजपुर कहा जाता था। अल्मोड़ा कस्बा पहाड़ पर घोड़े की काठीनुमा आकार के रिज पर बसा हुआ है। रिज के पूर्वी भाग को तालिफत और पश्चिमी भाग को सेलिफत के नाम से जाना जाता है। यहां का स्थानीय बाजार रिज की चोटी पर स्थित है जहां पर तालिफत और सेलिफत संयुक्त रूप से समाप्त होते हैं। बाजार 2.01 किमी लम्बा है और पत्थर की पटियों से से ढका हुआ है। जहां पर अभी छावनी है, वह स्थान पहले लालमंडी नाम से जाना जाता था। वर्तमान में जहां पर कलक्टरी स्थित है, वहां पर चंद राजाओं का ‘मल्ला महल’ स्थित था। वर्तमान में जहां पर जिला अस्पताल है, वहाँ पर चंद राजाओं का श्तल्ला महलश् हुआ करता था। सिमलखेत नामक एक ग्राम अल्मोड़ा और चमोली की सीमा पर स्थित है। इस ग्राम के लोग कुमांऊनी और गढ़वाली दोनो भाषाएं बोल सकते हैं। पहाड़ की चोटी पर एक मंदिर है, भैरव गढ़ी। गोरी नदी अल्मोड़ा जिले से होकर बहती है। अल्मोड़ा में एक प्रसिद्ध नृत्य अकादमी है, डांसीउस - जहां बहुत से भारतीय और फ्रांसीसी नर्तकों को प्रशि क्षण दिया गया था। इसकी स्थापना उदय शंकर द्वारा 1938 में की गई थी। अल्मोड़ा नृत्य अकादमी को कस्बे के बाहर रानीधर नामक स्थान पर स्थपित किया गया। इस स्थान पर से हिमालय और पूरे अल्मोड़ा कस्बे का शानदार दृश्य दिखाई देता है। इन पहाड़ों पर, प्रकृति के आतिथ्य के आगे मनुष्य द्वारा कुछ भी किया जाना बहुत छोटा हो जाता है। यहां हिमालय की मनमोहक सुंदरता, प्राणपोषक मौसम, और आरामदायक हरियाली जो आपके चारों ओर होती है, के बाद किसी और चीज की इच्छा नहीं रह जाती। उत्तराखंड राज्‍य के अल्‍मोड़ा जिले से 53 किमी.उत्तर में स्थित है कौसानी,भारत का खूबसूरत पर्वतीय पर्यटक स्‍थल। हिमालय की खूबसूरती के दर्शन कराता कौसानी पिंगनाथ चोटी पर बसा है। यहां से बर्फ से ढ़के नंदा देवी पर्वत की चोटी का नजारा बडा भव्‍य दिखाई देता हैं। कोसी और गोमती नदियों के बीच बसा कौसानी भारत का स्विट्जरलैंड कहलाता है। यहां के खूबसूरत प्राकृतिक नजारे,खेल और धार्मिक स्‍थल पर्यटकों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करते हैं।
