Trichy airport was declared an international airport on 4 October 2012 along with Lucknow, Varanasi, Coimbatore and Mangalore airports. and the same was notified by AAI on 22 October 2012.HistoryThis airport was built by the British during World War II and primarily used by the British Airforce during the world wars. Damaged aircraft which landed at the airport were taken to a workshop in Ponmalai, at a distance of 2 km, repaired and brought back into service. The airport was given permission for civilian operations after the war ended.Air Ceylon (Srilankan Airlines) began operations in the late '40s while Indian started services before 1980. Both airlines operated flights from Trichy to Colombo through Jaffna. Young teachers is an initiative by the interested students of NIT Trichy to help the other students and create a structure in which the students help each other in academics and otherwise. We plan to create an environment where the students can learn, help others to learn and utilize their potential to its fullest. Thus each student shines and enlightens others around him/her thereby creating an institution that is one of its own kind. Here we would not only emphasize on students being good at their academic curriculum but also on students taking up inter disciplinary courses as the real world projects need to be dealt with the knowledge of more than one stream of engineering. To start off with we have had conducted courses on Basics of Programming for first year the last semester (2012 odd semester). Over 200 students benefited from the course. We as a team would like to proceed further and start various courses this semester and inch a step closer to our goal.
