Drift started as a fragile plant in the summers of 2009. It was the insight of a few innovative engineers from the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur who came forward and put up their dreams of speed into Formula student racing team, The drift Racing. Drift was never a strictly mechanical project rather the team grew on the basis of interest and took up designing as a passion. 9 members from mechanical, Electrical, metallurgy, civil and electronics departments took up the team to represent the college into the first ever formula SAE India Design challenge in December 2009. The red speedster which was named DR110 performed wonders by winning the "best designed vehicle" award along with the overall 2nd runners up. The team with high spirits participate in the Formula SAE Australasia 2010 competition, where again Drift made history by becoming the 2nd ever Indian team in history of formula SAE to win an event. The team stood 1st in the Cost event. Again, the team showed its mettle by designing and manufacturing it's second car against all odds for Formula Student UK, Jul 2011. The team came 5th in Airbus Teamwork Award among 133 teams from all over the world. Now Team Drfit aims at bringing laurals to the institute and country by competing in the coming formula student UK in Jul 2012. Its just the support of people that is needed most for the students to full fill their dreams and make the country proud.......

Jamshedpur is a first planned industrial city of India, founded by the late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. It is also known as Steel City, TataNagar simply Tata, or Bharat ka Pitsburg. Jamshedpur is the headquarters of the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand and also biggest city of Jharkhand with highest per capita income. It has a population of 13,37,131(according to the 2011 census) and ranks 36th among the 53 million - plus cities in India.[1] It is located on the Chota Nagpur plateau and is surrounded by the picturesque Dalma Hills. The city is bordered by the rivers Subarnarekha and Kharkai on the north and west parts of the city. Jamshedpur is a major industrial centre of East India. It houses companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Lafarge Cement, Telcon, BOC Gases, Tata Technologies Limited, Praxair, TCE, TCS, Tinplate and many more. It is home to one of the largest industrial zones of India known as Adityapur which houses more than 1,200 small and medium scale industries. Government Polytechnic, Adityapur, falling within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of Jharkhand was established in the year 1980, by the Department of Science and Technology, predecessor State of Bihar, to promote the academic growth among the members of the tribal community in particular, and to serve as a valuable human resource for industry and society in general. After the coming into being of the State of Jharkhand on November 15, 2000, this institute is currently attaining new heights with the passage of time under the efficient guidance and control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Jharkhand, Ranchi. The Institute is totally funded by the State Government. The institute is located on the Tata-Kandra main road at distances of about 8 km. and 3 km. from railway stations at Tata Nagar and Adityapur respectively. It is situated in the industrial hub of Adityapur. The major industries that look to this institute to provide them with their human resources include Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tayo Rolls Ltd., Usha Martin Ltd., Adhunik Steel and many more. N.I.T. Jamshedpur is at a distance of about 2 km. towards the South. The simplest and the most economical way to approach the institute is by bus or auto-rickshaw which runs throughout the day. Jamshedpur is well connected to the rest of the country by air, road and rail. The most distinctive feature of the campus is the hostel facility provided by the college catering to the residential requirement of 75 students. Hospitals, Post-Office, Banks and ATMs are also situated nearby the institute campus. Moreover, another 100 bed hostel is under construction which will be completed within a year to meet the increasing need of the students.
