Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research is a medical and research institution. Located in Chandigarh, India, it has educational, medical research and training facilities for its students.The founders of the institute are Prof. Tulsi Das, Prof. Santokh Singh Anand, Prof. PN Chuttani, Prof. BN Aikat, Prof. Sant Ram Dhall and Prof. Bala Krishna. The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research was conceived and planned in 1960 to create in Chandigarh an “ISLAND OF EXCELLENCE” providing physical and intellectual milieu for young scientists working in multiple disciplines of medicine, to advance the frontiers of knowledge to render humane service to sick and suffering and to train medical and paramedical manpower. The Institute was established in 1962 under the erstwhile state of Punjab. It was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament w.e.f. 1 st April, 1967.Teaching and trainingPGIMER runs a full-time residency program in specialties of medical science, e.g., Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Microbiology etc.There is an institute of nursing called National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) which imparts nursing education.PGIMER is involved in research for the rural and community related environment and health problems. The focus of research has been on tackling diseases like diarrhoea, tuberculosis, malaria, amoebiasis Systemic vasculitis, Relapsing polychondritis, HIV, leprosy, hepatitis, anaemia, leukaemia, hypertension, atherosclerosis, thalassemia, dental caries, stone disease, cancer, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Punjab Engineering College (now known as PEC University of Technology), is an engineering institute located in the city of Chandigarh, India. It offers engineering studies at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels. History PEC was established in 1921 as Mugalpura Engineering College, at Lahore, now in Pakistan, but the name was changed in 1924 to Maclagan Engineering College. In 1931 it got affiliated to the University of the Punjab. After the partition of India, in 1947, it was moved to Roorkee and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering, to be renamed again three years later to Punjab Engineering College, a name which it held for more than 50 years. In 1953 it moved to its present campus in Chandigarh In 2003 it was awarded the Deemed University status and renamed Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University). In 2009 it finally received its current name, PEC University of Technology. Academics PEC offers Bachelor of Engineering (eight semesters) and Master of Engineering (four semesters) courses, as well as part-time Master of Engineering courses (six semesters) for industry and government sponsored candidates. There are also Doctoral Research positions. Admission Admissions to Bachelor of Engineering courses are made through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for Indian nationals and DASA for non-resident Indians (NRIs), Person of Indian Origin Card (PIOs) and foreign nationals. Admissions to Master of Engineering courses are made through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examinations.

Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) is under the administrative control of the Chandigarh Administration and is affiliated to Punjab University for its degree courses and Punjab State Board of Technical Education for its Diploma courses. Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Chandigarh(CCET), formerly known as Central Polytechnic Chandigarh (CPC), was established in 1959 (which offered Diploma Courses in Engineering). To cater to the aspiration and ambition of exponentially growing population of Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Administration upgraded CPC to CCET by starting the Degree Wing and by introducing two branches of Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science Engineering and Electronics and Electrical Communication in the year 2002. At that point of time, the degree wing was under construction. Therefore, the classes for the first batch were held in PEC. In 2004, the wing was completed and the CSE and EECE branches were officially commenced. In the year 2006-2007 two new courses in the discipline of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering were started with 20 students each(the number being raised to 60 in 2009). The foundation stone for Block B of degree wing was laid in 2008 with the construction beginning in 2010.
