Situated on the banks of the Lower Lake in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh is the prestigious and premier institution Govt. Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM) Bhopal. The institution came into existence after a faculty based segregation from Hamidia College, Bhopal which was at that time in 1956 the only government institution of higher education. The institution is honoured to be named after the renowned advocate, Statesman and freedom fighter late Shri Motilal Nehru. The foundation stone of its magnificent edifice was laid by the First President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 19th July 1958. A single faculty science institution committed and dedicated to teaching, learning and research, this esteemed institution was inaugurated by the most admired and First Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 7th Nov. 1960 with Dr. M.S. Rao as its first Principal. The institution was then headed, guided and motivated by a galaxy of eminent educationists in the subsequent years. Spread over an area of 15 acres, the institution is endowed with unique natural scenic beauty. The college is housed in the huge building comprising three separate blocks. It has a team of 85 well qualified faculty members headed by the Principal and an equally efficient group of supporting staff. Besides guiding and inspiring the students for academic excellence, the institution makes special efforts for the all-round personality development of about 1800 youth admitted to its care. Affiliated to Barkatullah University Bhopal the college has a curriculum designed by the University. It offers a wide range of combinations of subjects at UG level besides vocational courses in Computer Science, Electronics, EEM, Seed Technology, Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology at UG level which has attracted meritorious learners to this institution. It offers PG Level courses in 9 subjects, namely Botany, Chemistry, Defence & Strategic Studies, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology & Microbiology. The institution has been an active centre of research activities. The college offers and admits candidates for research work in all 8 subjects. A number of faculty members are approved Research Guides who have been constantly guiding and motivating students to pursue research activities. School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal is established by the Government of India as an Institute of National importance in the year 2008. This school is committed to produce best Architects and Planners of the Nation to take up the challenges of physical and socio- environmental development of global standards. This will be developed as 'University of imagination', where a sense of enquiry will prevail amongst all stake holders- students, researchers, professors and society at large. School of Planning and Architecture will strive for social sustenance through universal design, cultural sustenance through conservation and environmental sustenance through the discipline of Architecture, Planning and Design. The charter of School of Planning and Architecture , Bhopal is: To create SPA as a centre of excellence for imparting quality education at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels in Planning and Architecture. To create national level research and development centre with special emphasis on research and consultancy work in the field of Planning and Architecture. To create national level data base centre and decision support centre for the preparation and implementation of settlement and habitat development programmes for the Government. The University is named after Makhanlal Chaturvedi, a renowned Freedom Fighter, Poet and Journalist. 2. This University was formally inaugurated by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Vice President of India, on 16th January, 1991. 3.The University is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 4.It is not an Open University providing Distance Education. It does not provide education through correspondence. 5.It is not a Conventional University having limited territorial jurisdiction. It has jurisdiction through out the country. Consistent with the recent trend of globalisation and internationalisation of education, the University is imparting education outside the country also. 6.In keeping with its national character :- •The Vice President of India is the Visitor of the University •The General Council of the University, which is its Apex Body, comprises, amongst others, the following:- •A member of the Lok Sabha, nominated by the Speaker of Lok Sabha •A member of the Rajya Sabha, nominated by the Chairperson of Rajya Sabha •Chairman of the Press Council of India •Ten members representing different States of the country. Five of them are nominated by Chief Ministers of respective States. The remaining five are representatives of five Indian languages •Three members representing three All India Professional Bodies. •Five professionals from various parts of the country. 7.The University aims at developing excellent professionals with social commitment. 8.The University imparts education through :- •Its Teaching Departments at Bhopal •Its campuses at Noida, which is now for all practical purposes, a part of Delhi; and at Khandwa •Network of Study Institutes spread over the whole country 9.These Study Institutes are run by non-profit Societies & Trusts which are registered under the relevant laws. 10.The relationship between the University and its Study Institutes comes closest to, and can be best described as, that existing between a Conventional University and its Affiliated Colleges. 11.That is why; •The University prescribes norms for infrastructure, qualifications and number of faculty, eligibility for admission of students, norms of admission of students on merit, curriculum, number of teaching days (at least 90 days per Semester), minimum number of hours for Class Room-teaching, Laboratory and Practical Work per week, attendance required (75%) for students to be eligible to appear at the University examination and for other matters for which a Conventional University ordinarily prescribes norms for its affiliated colleges. •The University conducts examinations in a fair, strict and credible manner. 12.Study Institutes which run Diploma Courses only are called Registered Study Institutes. Those which offer Degree and Post Graduate Courses are called Associated Study Institutes. 13.The University registers or associates a Study Institute only if inspection by competent and trustworthy professionals finds it adhering to the prescribed norms or having potential to come up to these norms, within a reasonable period. 14.Continued observance of prescribed norms is ensured through both regular and systematic inspections, and surprise inspections. 15.Curricula for Courses of the University are designed and regularly updated jointly by eminent academics and professionals which have to be strictly followed by all Study Institutes and their students. 16.To promote holistic development of the personality of the students, to provide a platform to nurture and present artistic, literary and sports talents and to develop a feeling of fraternity and camaraderie amongst the students of the University, inter-Study Institutes, inter-Zonal and National level cultural and sports meets are organised.

In 1939 some of the British headmasters (principals) of Indian princely schools came together to spread "Quality Education" to forge the "best citizens" of the country and mould personality of the students in to a "rounded whole". These British headmasters were band upon their own and started imparting "All Education to the few". On the other hand, Mahatma Gandhi wanted" Some Education for all." Late Shri G.D. Birla, who was the best friend of Gandhiji followed Gandhiji's message and started the famous Birla Public School. But in our opinion we should impart "All Education to all" to all those who come to join us - I mean to our students, in order to enlighten their mind, body and soul. Therefore in order to achieve the above aim, the Tagore Memorial Education Society established the T.M. convent School in the year 1972 which is dedicated to the cause of education, national welfare and social service and not as a commercial venture as it is a "Non Profiteering Association" and in near future it is going to become an "Educational Trust."
