Established in the year 1919 as the Chota Nagpur Light Horse Club it was rechristened as The Asansol Club Ltd. and incorporated under the Companies Act.1913 vide registration on 21003409 dated 27.09.1919. In the early days,Club facilites and membership was restricted to Europeans and Senior Gevement Officials only.The entire stretch of Polo Ground was also under the jurisdiction of the Club. But during the second World War the said Polo Ground was taken over by the Government for defence purposes and there after handed over to the West Bengal Covil Defence Authority. It is no exaggeration but we feel proujd to mention here that ours is not only lthe oldest Club outside Kolkata but the most prestigious Club too. The Membership strength is limited to 700 No. and restricted to the lwhos who of th is Division. Special stress and emphasis is given to the candidates credibility and social standing, Gentlement and laides from all walks of the life some very renowned and distinguished personalities are also members.

Asansol is the planned industrial city of west bengal. Discovered by the german and the british during 18th, century for its black gold and other minerals. Yes asansol has lot of coal under its’ belly and naturally there are lots of coal mines around here. This place also has many small and large steel plants, cement plants, sponge iron plants and many other small industries. This is also a major railway junction of the country. The british utilized this place to the fullest capacity. They also made it second home after calcutta.

*** This is the official page of SPS Asansol on Facebook*** St. Patrick’s founded in 1891 is one of the nineteen Christian Brothers Schools in this country. St. Patrick’s School was built in 1877 as a Scholasticate for Belgian Jesuits. It was abandoned by them because of severe Asansol climate. It was taken over by Christian Brothers in 1890 and opened as St. Patrick’s Boarding of Anglo- Indian and European Boys. The first senior Cambridge class passed out in 1904 and since then Examination results have been remarkably good. I.S.C and I.C.S.E. were introduced in the 1970’s and results have continued to be excellent. The games down the years have been a major characteristic of the school life. St. Patrick’s School team has taken part in many major tournaments. The winning of the District Open Football Tournament in 1926 is just one to start narrating with. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, a country that was once called “THE ISLAND OF SAINTS AND SCHOLARS.” The Christian brothers have worked for over a century in St. Patrick’s School and many of their Stalwarts are buried in the School Cemetery. Our Ex-Pupils are to be found around the world as well as all over India. May our present pupils keep up the great traditions of the years gone by and continue to strive for excellence.

Bidhan Chandra College, Asansol owes its origin to the energetic and sincere efforts of the Members of Asansol Educational Development Committe, Relief and Welfare Society, the major programme of which was to establish a first grade college at Asansol with a view to meet the increasing demand of this vast industrial area for higher education. Sri Sasthinarayan Gorai made a contribution of Rs. 1,11,111/- for foundation of the college.The govt. of West Bengal also realising the need for such a college at Asansol responded by bringing the college under the sponsored scheme from it's very inception in 1961in the name of illustrious son of West Bengal Dr. B. C. Roy. The foundation stone of the new building of Bidhan Chandra college was to the great fortune of the college laid by Dr. Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan, the then Vice-President of India in November, 1961.
