Two years after devastating flash floods tore through the region leaving a trail of death and destruction, Ladakh is back and running and getting set to host the Ladakh Marathon which includes the Khardung La Challenge, the world’s highest endurance run. Race day is on 9 September 2012 with four events including a full marathon around the capital of Leh at an altitude of 3524 metres (11,562 feet.) There is also the extreme Khardung La Challenge where runners cross one of the the world’s highest passes 5602 metres (18,380 feet.) When hundreds of local Ladakhis accompanied by runners from across India and the world participate they will be saying in a loud and unified voice that yes, Ladakh is back and running.
