Ranchi University is a university in Jharkhand state of India. It was established on 12 July 1960 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university, and its first vice chancellor was Vishnudeo Narayan Singh. It is headquartered in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand.The university has a total student intake of around 90,000 students from its affiliated colleges. It has a central library with approximately 150,000 books for the academic needs of the students. There are a total of two male hostels and four female hostels in the university campus situated at Kutchery Road, Morabadi in Ranchi. The university is financially dependent on UGC funds (Rs. 38 crores annually) in addition to the fees paid by the students.At present, the University spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. Right since its inception Ranchi University has been alive to the ever increasing demands of higher education. Keeping apace with changing times, the University today offers vocational courses. For the less privileged students coming from the scheduled tribes or scheduled castes, special coaching classes are engaged to prepare them for competitive examinations.The syllabi for main stream courses in science, humanities and commerce too have been upgraded to meet the requirements of University Grants Commission(UGC).The current acting Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University is L. N. Bhagat.ChancellorsThe Chancellor of the university was the Governor of Bihar until the inception of Jharkhand on 15 November 2000. Since then it was the Governor of Jharkhand.

On 12 September 2007, new district Ramgarh was created and Ramgarh Cantonment town become District Headquarter. Ramagrh Cantonment is surrounded by coal-fields at Rajrappa,Laiyo,Ghato,Bhurkunda,Topa,Sarubera, Sirka, Urrimari,Sayal,Gidi etc. Patratu Thermal Power Station is about 30 km from Ramgarh. Damodar River flows past the town.The is spreads over a very large area on the both sides of NH 33.

Rajrappa (Hindi: राजरप्पा) is a waterfall and a pilgrimage centre in Ramgarh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Rajrappa stands at the confluence of the Damodar and Bhairavi (locally called Bhera) rivers. Rajrappa is located off NH 23 connecting Ramgarh and Chas. It is 28 kilometres from Ramgarh,65 kilometres from Hazaribagh, 78 kilometres from Ranchi and 60 kilometres from Bokaro Steel City. Rajrappa is a Hindu pilgrimage centre attracting an estimated 2,500-3,000 persons daily. The main attraction of the Chhinnamasta (also known as Chinnamastika) temple located here is the headless deity of goddess Chinnamasta which stands on the body of Kamdeo and Rati in the lotus bed. The Chhinnamasta temple is very popular for its Tantrik style of architectural design. The temple is very old but has that essence of enchantment. Apart from the main temple, there are ten temples of various gods and goddesses such as the Sun God and Lord Shiva. Animal sacrifice is still practised in the temple. Rajrappa is a project under Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. It is one of the biggest coal-fields in its region. It is widely known as the Rajrappa Project, which consist of the main quarry (a huge open cast mine), offices, colonies, recreation facilities, shopping complexes, a police out-post and public utility buildings. It is a complete township in itself.
