Located in the foot of Kanthavara forest, in between the two famous towns Moodabidri and Karkala, about 42 kms from Mangalore city and 60 kms from Agumbe, Belvai is a home for more than 100 species of Butterflies, including the endemic species like the Malabar Banded Peacock, Southern Birdwing, Tamil Lacewing and also some of the most handsome butterflies in the world like the Paris Peacock, Clipper etc. This butterfly park was started with the aim of conserving butterflies whose population is dwindling in recent years due to drastic modifications of wildlife habitats..!!! The park would be open for public by 2013.
