Jhunjhunu district was named on ruler Jhunjhar Singh Gi, who was a jat of Nehra gotra. It is a part of Shekhawati Region. Jhunjhunu was ruled by the Kaimkhani Nawabs till 1730. Rohilla Khan was the last Nawab of Jhunjhunu. The Nawabs ruled over Jhunjhunu for 280 years. Rohilla Khan had imposed great faith in Shardul Singh and he acted as his Diwan. Shardul Singh was a bold and efficient administrator. He occupied Jhunjhunu after the death of Rohilla Khan in 1730 A.D. It was by dint of his subtle political demeanour that Maharao Shardul Singh occupied Jhunjhunu & ruled over it for 12 years. After his death the estate was divided equally among his five sons. Their descendants continued to rule over it till Indian Independence in 1947. Shardul Singh's religious beliif was instrumental in him having built many temples such as Kalyan Ji Mandir & Gopinath Ji Ka mandir at Jhunjhunu. To commemorate Maharao Shardul Singh, his sons made a monumental dome at Parasrampura ordorned with fresco paintings.

The Vidyalaya came into existence in 1986 under the Ministry of HRD. Initially It was started in the campus of famous Rani Shakti Temple and ran for about seven years there and then shifted to the present location-own building-in Sept.1992.It is running as civil sector school, two section school mainly to cater to the needs of wards of Military Personnel-serving or retired ,a big number of which belongs to Jhunjhunu District. The Vidyalaya is affiliated to the Central Board Secondary Education, Preet Vihar, New Delhi, and prepares students for the all India Secondary School (Class X) Examination, and all India Senior School Certificate (Class XII) Examination of the Board. The School gradually rose from X th Class to +2 stream with Science & Humanities in 1993 stream. However the humanities were closed down and in 2007 commerce stream were added. Presently in 2011 it has all three streams. In 2000 it was declared a model KV. In 2000 it was declared a model KV. As a member of the elite Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, KV Jhunjhunu aims at providing quality education, commensurate with the standard set by the organization for these pace setting institutions. This Vidyalaya is run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, an Autonomous Body under the Ministry of Human Resources Development, with the object of providing educational facilities to the children of defence persons, Central Government employees, employees of Autonomous Bodies. Who are liable to be transferred from one state to another. Some Kendriya Vidayalayas have also been established in institutions of higher Learning and Public Sector undertakings to facilitate the education of the children of their employees with the same view. KVs have been in Katmandu & Moscow too.
