St. Berchmans (SB) College is a pioneer institution of higher education situated at Changanacherry in the State of Kerala, India. It has now 16 post graduate and 7 research departments. It was founded by the Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese in 1922 for the educational needs of the people. The College was affiliated to the Madras University in 1922 and subsequently became part of the Travancore University in 1939; the Kerala University in 1957 and the Mahatma Gandhi University in 1983. SB College is the recipient of the Best College Award instituted by the State of Kerala. When the new National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) started its operations to assess the institutions of higher education in India, SB was granted with a five star rating (the higher grade). The University's Grants Commission (UGC) of India identifies SB as a College with Potential for Excellence. SB College is also the Partner Institute of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and other temples of higher education.
