The College of Engineering, Trivandrum, commonly known as CET, is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Founded in 1939, it is the top ranked engineering college in Kerala. It has also got place in the top engineering schools in India. The college was ranked 18th overall among 100 Top Engineering colleges of the country by Dataquest-CMR Top T-Schools Survey 2011.General informationThe college began on 3 July 1939 as a part of the erstwhile University of Travancore, Kerala, India. The college campus is situated in Kulathoor near Sreekariyam, 13 km from Thiruvananthapuram Central (railway station). Extending over 125 acres (500,000 m²) of land, it has one of the most spacious campuses in the country. The main building resembles a spanner from the air, around which are spread the departmental buildings, library block, laboratories, workshops, hostels, a planetarium, staff quarters, and stadiums. The campus is one of the greenest in the country, and has won accolades from environmentalists and nature enthusiasts alike.In 1990, the Department of Science and Technology, government of India, ranked the college as one among the high ranking institutions in comparison with the performance of National Institute of Technology(NITs) in the area of training and placement.It is one of the few technical institutions in South India, which admits students mostly on a merit basis through an All Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination. Admission to this institution requires good ranks in this examination. Besides the regular BTech, BArch and MTech programmes, the college also conducts Part Time BTech classes for meritorious Diploma Holders.

Trivandrum Medical College is located in Thiruvananthapuram city, the capital of Kerala state, India. It was founded in 1951, and was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India. This is the oldest and most prestigious medical college in Kerala. It is being upgraded to the status of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The Govt. College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram is a prestigious institution that has to its credit a history of more than 100 years of excellence in the field of women education. It is one of the leading educational institutions in Kerala.It was started as the Sircar Girl’s School, in 1864 by the Royal family of Travancore . The Travancore Royal Family is renowned for forward thinking, progressive policies and enlightened ways of its members. Empowerment and welfare of women were among their prime concerns. The Royal family was well aware that these goals could be achieved only through educating the women folk.This led to the establishment of an educational institution for girls - the Sircar Girl’s School, in 1864. This was during the reign of Aayilyam Thirunal (1860-1880). In 1897 during the reign of Sree Moolam Thirunal (1885–1924), this institution was upgraded as a second grade college and re-designated as The Maharaja’s College for Girls and affiliated to theMadras University. It was elevated to the status of a first grade college and was renamed as H.H. The Maharaja’s College for Women in 1920.In 1937,during the reign of Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma (1931–1949), the University of Travancore was founded(constituted) and the College was affiliated to this university. In 1957, the University of Kerala came into being and the College was then affiliated to it. Since its establishment in 1897, the College has succeeded in producing an endless array of illustrious, motivated and meritorious women who have enlightened and enriched this state in so many different ways. This institution can be legitimately proud of a galaxy of alumnae who have distinguished themselves in various fields. Today the College conducts 16 under graduate and 16 post graduate courses. It has 24 teaching departments, eight of which are research centers. The student strength is about 2500 and the staff strength including teaching and non- teaching members is 210. A Continuing Education Sub-Center functioning here offers about 60 job oriented courses in various disciplines. In 2005 the College was accredited with A grade by the NAAC team. The Royal Family of Travancore holds all the credit of establishing, nurturing and developing this College into such a famed institution, that its alma mater will always be proud of. For the centenary celebrations in 1997, unstinted co-operation was extended by the Royal Family and a handsome amount of Rs 75000/- was donated. The present day excellence of the College owes largely to the Royal Family of Travancore. All the Royal Members were always very supportive and took an active interest in the welfare of this College, especially the alumnae, Princess Gowri Parvathy Bayi and Princess Gowri Lakshmy Bayi.
