The Prananath College, Khurda owes its origin to the devoted and tenacious efforts of the great soul Late Prananath Patnaik.The idea of having a college at khurda cherished in the minds of the local intelligentsia since 1955, could become a reality only on Januray 28,1959, on account of the relentless struggle of Late Prananath Patnaik and his associates. Established as “Khurda College”, in july 1959 with the foundation stone laid by prof. Humayan Kabir, the then Union Minister Education of India. Started with the 64 students, 7 teaching and 7 non teaching staffs having provision of Pre - University Arts course only. Degree level Arts course started in 1963 and Degree level Science in 1970. Pre -University Science in 1963, Pre-proffessional Course in 1969 and Degree level Science in 1970. Pre - University Commerce came in 1969 and Degree in 1972 Renamed as “Prananatha College” in 1970 after the name of the founder of the college Late Prananath Patnaik, great freedom fighter socialist leader dedicated and strived relentlessly for cause of education in the state. Stepping in to 48 years, the college has been granted the Autonomous status by U.G.C .W.e.f june 2006.The NAAC has also acredited the college at “A” level. The college has completed 50 years of its existence and is celebrating its “golden jubulee” .We are hopeful of bright future in its way to the pinnacle of glory as envisioned by its legendary founder.
