Siksha O Anusandhan University is a university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, declared Siksha O Anusandhan deemed to be a University on 17 July 2007. In between the UGC expert team reviewed the SOA University during 10–12 August 2009 and has recommended an extension of three years effective from 2009/10 academic sessions. Besides, the NAAC team has accredited SOA University with “A” grade in the academic session w.e.f. 30 September 2009 and now it is a Deemed University according to UGC Act. All the eligible programs are NBA accredited and the University is ISO certified by United Registrar of Systems .The President of Siksha O Anusandhan, Prof. Manojranjan Nayak is an educationist and a humanist as well. His simple vision nourished a noble rubric of institutions dedicated to different contemporary branches of education and research, that include technical, medical, business administration, just to name a few. The President is democratic in the true sense of term. Utkal University, Bhubaneswar is the oldest university in Orissa and the seventeenth oldest university in India. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University, that has produced some of the best brains in Orissa. The total number of students in the PG Departments of the campus at Vani Vihar is nearly 3,000. Its present campus at Vani Vihar, BHUBANESWAR is located on a sprawling 399.9 Acre area in the heart of BHUBANESWAR, with the Sainik School to its north, National High way No.5 to its south, Regional Research Laboratory and Institute of Physics to its west and the South Eastern Railway line to its east. The Foundation stone of this Campus was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India on 1st January 1958 and the Campus was inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of India on 2nd January 1963. This is a teaching-cum-affiliating University. There are at present twenty-seven Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for Post-Graduate studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities ,Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce. The total number of students in the P.G. Department of the campus at Vani Vihar is nearly 3,000. This is in fact the largest affiliating University in the country with approximately 267 affiliated Colleges (Degree Colleges-219, Professional College-44, Other Constituent Colleges-2) under its jurisdiction. The University has now the jurisdiction over 9 districts, viz, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri and is spread over an area of 24,973 sq. kilometers catering to the needs of higher education of a population of more than 110 lakhs. At present the University has twenty-seven Post-Graduate teaching and research departments located within the campus and three constituent Institutions, viz. Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education, University Law College at Vani Vihar and M.S. Law College at Cuttack. Besides the regular courses, twenty-six sponsored courses are offered under the direct academic control of the P.G. Council of the University. Location The University campus is located at the heart of Bhubaneswar city and right on NH-5. It is nearly 5 km from both the Main Railway Station at MasterCanteen and Bus Stand at Baramunda. All the postgraduate departments and the University Law College are located inside the campus. Its present campus at Vani Vihar is located on a sprawling 399.9-acre (1.618 km2) area in the heart of Bhubaneswar beside the National High way No.5 connecting Calcutta and Chennai. This is the largest affiliating university in the country with 267 affiliated general colleges, 15 law colleges, six medical and pharmacy colleges.HistoryAfter the separation of Odisha from Bihar and the creation of the new province of Odisha in April 1936, there was a strong desire among the leaders of the province for the establishment of a separate university in Odisha. Until 1936 all the colleges were under the jurisdiction of either Patna University or Andhra University. Subsequently the government of Odisha, with Shri Biswanath Das as the premier, appointed a committee on 2 March 1938 with Pandit Nilakantha Das as its chairman to examine the possibility of establishing a separate university in Odisha. During the premiership of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, who played a pioneering role in the establishment of the university, the recommendation of this committee was made available. Pandit Godavarish Mishra, the then minister of education in the government of Odisha introduced the Utkal University Bill which was passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly on 30 June 1943. On receiving the Governor's assent subsequently on 2 August 1943, the Utkal University Act 1943 came into force, clearing the way for the foundation of the university on 27 November 1943.

Rama Devi Women's College, one of the premier women's institution of Orissa, started functioning as Government Women's College from the year 1964 in a small building of the Labour Department, Government of Orissa. The College was shifted to the Old School Building of Unit-1 in 1966 and finally to the present campus of about 28 acres on 1st January, 1969. A month later it was named after Maa Rama Devi, a great Orissan freedom fighter and a devout Gandhian. In 1990 the College celebrated its Silver Jubilee with enthusiasm and joy. From 1st June 1994, it was elevated to the status of a lead college and in 1995, it became the first Post-Graduate college of the State Capital with the opening of M.A. classes in Hindi and Home Science. From the academic session 1999-2000, this premier institution has been declared by the UGC an Autonomous College with effect from the session 2001-2002. Consequent upon the visit of the NAAC peer team to the College in August, 2004, the NACC (UGC) taking all the parameters of assessment into consideration, have awarded `A' GRADE to this college w.e.f. 16.9.2004. The Post-Graduate and Degree Classes are functioning under rama devi women's autonomous college and Higher Secondary Classes are placed under rama devi women's junior college. The library, class rooms, and other infrastructure are shared by the two colleges. The autonomous college imparts P.G. teaching in Hindi and Home Science and Honours teaching in English, Oriya, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Mathematics, Accountancy, Management, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Honours in Computer Science is taught as a self financing course. Under the UGC assistance, four vocational subjects namely (i) Clinical Nutrition, (ii) Secretarial Practice and Office Management, (iii) Food Science & Quality Control, and (iv) Industrial Fish & Fisheries are taught at degree level. Each year the college produces students of outstanding calibre, who hold positions in Higher Secondary and University Examinations in Science, Commerce and Arts. The NCC and NSS Volunteers of this college have earned name and fame, both within and outside the State. No. 3131-E dated 08.02.1969 from the Government of Orissa in the Education Department to the Director of Public Instruction (H.E.), Orissa, Bhubaneswar the change of name of the Government Women's College, Bhubaneswar as Rama Devi Women's College, Bhubaneswar B. The Syndicate of Utkal University as per resolution in its meeting held on 07.03.1969, has recorded the decision of the Government of Orissa in regard to the change of the name of the Government Women's College, Bhubaneswar to "Rama Devi Women's College", Bhubaneswar. This was communicated to the Secretary to Government of Orissa, Department of Education & Youth Services, Bhubaneswar by the Assistant Registrar (Admn.), Utkal University vide letter no. 69878 dated 20th March, 1969. C. The College has been declared Autonomous vide U.U. Notification No. Dev-1/145/38257/99 dated 19.6.1999 and the status of the Autonomous College was conferred by Govt. of Orissa, Department of Higher Education vide their Notification No. 50351/I-H.E./AC-1/98/HE dated 12.10.1999. D. The Rama Devi Women's Autonomous College (for Degree and P.G. Classes) and Rama Devi Women's Junior College (for Higher Secondary Classes) were separated vide Govt. Notification No. 29412/HE dated 15.05.2001. E. The building was constructed by Capital Construction Division, Bubaneswar. a) Name of Contractor : M/s. International Construction Co. b) Date of commencement of construction of college building: 20.02.1966. c) Date of completion of college building and handed over to D.P.I., Orissa : 31.12.1968. d) The building was handed over to the Principal, Govt. Women's College, Bhubaneswar on 01.01.1969. e) The Government Women's College was shifted physically to its new own building in Unit-IX, Bhubaneswar on 01.01.1969. Infrastructure Description of Allotment of Land for College a) Vide Political and Services Department of Government of Orissa Letter No. 2771-C.A. dated the 15th April, 1955, a site measuring 726' x 1200' (approximately 20 acres of land) in front of the State Electricity Board in Saheed Nagar, Unit-IX of New Capital Bhubaneswar, was allotted for construction of a multistoried building for Women's College. b) Corrigendum : Vide Political and Services Department Letter No. 3987 dated 20.05.1965, the location for the site for Women's College as stated in the word "Saheed Nagar" in the P. & S. Department order No. 2771 C.A. dated 15.04.1965 was changed into the site to South of State Electricity Board in Gopabandhu Nagar, Unit-IX. c) Vide Political and Service Department of Govt. of Orissa Letter No. 457-CA dated 3.6.1975, a plot measuring 1260 x 286 ft. (8.36 acre) was allotted in favour of Education Department for construction of hostels and expansion programme of Rama Devi Women's College. The hostels of the College are situated within this area by undertaking construction of multistoried structures as per the order of the Director of Estates and Ex-Officio-Deputy Secretary to the Govt. of Orissa, Bhubaneswar. d) Vide the Political and Services Department Letter No. 1058 dated 2nd February, 1978 of the Govt. of Orissa, in suppression of P. & S. Department Order No. 10787-CA dated 17.10.1974, an area measuring 360' x 460' towards southwest corner of the Rama Devi Women's College was allotted in favour of Girls' High School in Unit-IX, Bhubaneswar. e) This partially modified the Department order No. 2771-CA dated 15.04.1965, No. 3987-DA dated 20.05.1965, No. 457-DA dated 03.06.1975 in which a total area of A.28.36 decimals was allotted in favour of Education Department for construction and expansion programme of Rama Devi Women's College.
