Christ Church College, Kanpur
Christ Church College, Kanpur, the oldest college of the city (1866), carries a historic heritage of supreme educational service and standards. Besides its lineage of extraordinary educators, as the Rev. G.H.Westcott, the Rev. R.G.Slater and Prof. Ninan Abraham, its luminous alumni include such noted names as Shri Motilal Nehru, Shri Uma Shankar Dixit, Shri Ziaullah Rehman Ansari, Pt. Dwarika Prasad Mishra, Vice Admiral Avinash Bhatia, the famous singer Abhijeet, the Chief Financial Officer of the White House, U.S.A., Shri Gopal Khanna, Shri Anant Mishra, Minister of Health, U.P., and countless others like them.
The College began as an S.P.G. Mission School in the 1840’s to educate Christian children and those who chose it. First called Mission School, then Christ Church School, it grew into a College affiliated first to the Calcutta University in 1866, then to the Allahabad University in 1892, later to the Agra University in 1927, and last, to the Kanpur University (now C.S.J.M. University) in 1966. It is now a minority co-ed college of the C.N.I. Agra Diocese, managed by the Christ Church College Society, Kanpur. Its Governing Body comprises eminent members under the Chairmanship of the C.N.I. Bishop of Agra.
