Govt. Model Higher Secondary School For boys, Thrissur, Thrissur (Trichur) ,
‘Orma’, an exhibition of souvenirs organized by the social science club of the Thrissur Government Model Boys High school is an attempt to connect the past with the present. By showcasing a rare collection of 78 souvenirs, the event in reality, traces the rich history of Thrissur. Says Govindan Kutty M.S, who teaches social sciences in the school: “The school, one among the first two to be established in the erstwhile princely state of Kochi, has a history of about 174 years and this exhibition is a peep into the past of not just the school but its location as well’’. The event begins with a pictorial tribute to Rabindranath Tagore and guides the viewer through information and reports that have ceased to be relevant. The oldest among the exhibits is a wooden sculpture presented by an unknown artist on the occasion of the school’s centenary celebrations. According to the organizers, all the objects showcased tell the stories of a time when Thrissur was part of the Kochi state and of various people who made their mark on its history. For instance, one of the souvenirs states that Nobel laureate C.V. Raman had visited the school in 1938 as part of the institution’s centenary celebrations. The collections that capture the memorable moments of the institution are largely drawn from the school archives and a handful, from elsewhere. The event will conclude on Thursday.
