History To write a few lines about the Platinum theatre Sree Padmanabha, we have to go to its founder Sri. P. Subramaniam. He was a pioneer in showmanship in Kerala and he established 5 Theatres in Trivandrum, the first being New Theatre started in 1936. Later came Sree Padmanabha Theatre in 1939 followed by Sreekumar Theatre in 1948, Karthikeya in 1948 and Sreevisakh in 1975. He also established Merryland Studio, a motion picture unit and produced nearly 85 films mostly in Malayalam and Tamil and a few dubbed in Telugu and Hindi. He was also a recipient of President's Silver Medal and State Government's Award for his various pictures. He had produced the mythology on Lord Sree Ayyappan. The film was titled Swamy Ayyappan and the receipts of this mega hit picture has been completely donated for providing amenities for pilgrims visiting Sabarimala Temple in the forest hills in Pathanamthitta District. Sri. P Subramaniam was succeeded by his son Mr. S Chandran. In 1991 Mr. Girish Chandran son of Mr. S Chandran assumed office under the guidance of his father Mr. S. Chandran. Infrastructure Construction - The launch of Sree Padmanabha Theatre was in the year 1936 as a ‘Tent Cinema’ with single projector. The shows conducted then had nearly six intervals. The first reconstruction was done in early 40s. The third construction with air conditioning was done during the70s and was opened on the 11th February 1972. Dolby Stereo and DTS sound system was introduced in August 1997. the Major face lift was done in March 2011. Now the theatre is upgraded with following facilities. Projection – CHRISTIE 2K (Digital) with DepthQ 3D Photophone - Super Arc (Analog). Screen - Imported Silver Screen. Sound System – Dolby Stereo and dts with JBL Speakers. Air Conditioning – Voltas Central plant and Ductable Split with back-up generator system. Seating - Multiplex Standard Seating. Lighting – LED. Cameras - Infrared cameras installed inside the theatre for your safety. Awards & Recognition (Latest) 1. Awarded Platinum Grade by the Govt. of Kerala, first among 15 theatres identified from 399 cinemas across the state. 2. The best theatre award for Technical Excellence in the16th IFFK. 3. The best theatre award for the facilities in the 15th IFFK. 4.
