Guwahati Half Marathon was organized for the first time in August, 2009 under the Social Initiatives Module of Techniche 2009. We had received very good response for the event from Guwahati city. The participation was more than 1000. For the second time, Guwahati Half Marathon was organized in August, 2010. In 2010, we had received overwhelming response from all over North-East India. We had more than 3500 participants. Zublee Baruah, eminent female singer from the North-East India and Akash Chopra, Indian Cricketer were Brand Ambassadors for Guwahati Half Marathon 2010. Also, we had witnessed performances by one of the world’s largest Parkour groups 'American Parkour', during the closing ceremony.

Consequently, a gradual increase can be seen in the responsibility and respect for the people involved with this profession. It has become one of the driving forces of social and economic changes in our country. Assam and the North-East region as a whole too has been touched by the growing popularity and significance of newspapers, satellite television channels and FM radio stations with more and more players entering these various fields. Every year these newspaper organisations, satellite television channels and other media organizations require trained and skilled journalism professionals to meet their specific work needs. Meanwhile, many educational institutes providing journalism and mass communication courses have cropped up in the state yet their curriculum does not give due importance to region’s society and culture. Furthermore, having a serious lack in the functionality of the theoretical learning many students who pass out with good percentage from these institutes fail to get placement in the various existing organisations. In contrast to these institutes, the educational agenda of “Assam School of Journalism” has specifically incorporated local language, literature, society, culture along with special and prime importance to practical area of all the different facets journalism and mass communication and has come up with a well rounded curriculum. Meanwhile, observing the recent fall in the ethical or moral quarters of the journalistic profession “Assam School of Journalism” has given particular weightage to a healthy, value based and holistic approach to the imparting of journalistic knowledge. This educational institution is being managed by Pratyasha Foundation, Assam, a government registered Trust.
