Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology (JIST), formerly known as Jorhat Science College was established by the Govt. of Assam in the year 1971 and has recently completed its glorious 40 years.
The College is offering three year degree course with major in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
From the academic session 2007-2008, three year six semester bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc. in IT) course was introduced. Govt. of Assam, vide notification No. ATE.226/2008/3 dated 18th November 2008 and upgraded the college and renamed it as Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology registered under Societies Registration Act XXI 1860.
The 4 year Bachelor of Engineering courses in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETC) and Power Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (PEI) from the academic session 2009-10 were introduced. The courses are approved by AICTE and the institute is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Assam.
JIST is situated on a sprawling campus spread over 200 acres of land on the outskirts of Jorhat district, the heart of Upper Assam, amid breathtaking scenery. It is well connected with the rest of the country by air, railways and bus facility.
It is situated on National Highway- 37, 9km to the East of Jorhat town/railway station and 15km on the East of Jorhat airport and 25km from Mariani Railway Station.
