Sharana was founded and inspired by Rajkala, herself born in Tamil Nadu (South India). Having lived in many of the major cities throughout India, Rajkala holds an understanding and familiarity with the country’s comparable differences. After having obtained her Masters in Rural development from Madras University, she committed herself first for nineteen years to a major social and development association in Pondicherry (now Puducherry). In July 2000, she decided to form her own association; thus Sharana was born.
