Kannur International Airport (കണ്ണൂര്‍ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളം) is an upcoming international airport located at Mattanur in Kannur District, Kerala, India. The airport is the fourth international airport in Kerala. As of 19 July 2011, 1,276 acres (5.16 km2) has been acquired for the airport out of 1,284 acres (5.20 km2) notified.[2] Kannur Airport project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014. Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) is a public limited company set up by the government of Kerala to build and operate the proposed Kannur International Airport. The company was registered in December 2009 as a private limited company and converted into a public limited one in August 2010. The land after acquisition will be transferred to the company, which is implementing the airport project. The Airport Company will pay for the land. The paid up capital of the company has been contributed by the government of Kerala and the public sector undertaking of the government, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). The registered office of the company is at Thiruvananthapuram (erstwhile Trivandrum). The project will be implemented on a Public–private partnership(PPP) basis and a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model. Kerala State government would have control over 51 per cent of the share in Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) floated with an authorised capital of Rs.1,000 crore. Of this, 26 per cent of the equity would be with the government. The value of the land totalling 26 per cent of the authorised capital would be converted into the government's equity. The land exceeding that value would be given on lease to the company. 23 per cent of the equity would be with the public sector undertaking and two per cent with Infrastructure Kerala Ltd.(INKEL).
